Product Description

Tubular electric heater

Tubular electric heater, also known as tubular electric heating element, is a widely used resistance-type heating device. It efficiently and safely converts electrical energy into thermal energy, providing heating solutions for various media such as air, liquids, and metal molds. It is a core component in household appliances, industrial equipment, and laboratory instruments.

Core Structure and Working Principle

The design of tubular electric heaters is ingenious, with the core focus on safely isolating the heating element from the external environment while efficiently transferring heat.

Basic Construction

Metal sheath tube: As the outer shell, it is typically made of stainless steel, copper, titanium alloy, or carbon steel, serving to protect internal components, resist corrosion, and conduct heat.

Resistance heating wire: The core heating element, usually made of nickel-chromium (Ni-Cr) or iron-chromium-aluminum (Fe-Cr-Al) alloy wire, uniformly distributed along the central axis of the tube.

Insulating filler: The gap between the heating wire and the sheath tube is tightly filled with crystalline magnesium oxide powder. It has excellent thermal conductivity and electrical insulation, and is key to safety and efficiency.

Sealing and lead-out rods: Both ends of the tube are sealed with silicone, epoxy, or glass materials to prevent moisture and impurities from entering; lead-out rods are used to connect to the external power supply.

Working Principle

When current passes through the resistance heating wire, a large amount of heat is generated based on the Joule heating effect. The heat is first rapidly and uniformly conducted through the highly thermally conductive magnesium oxide powder to the surface of the metal sheath tube, and then transferred to the heated medium (such as water, oil, air, etc.) through conduction, convection, or radiation.

Main Types and Application Scenarios

Based on shape, medium, and special requirements, tubular electric heaters have multiple classifications:

By shape: Straight type (single-ended/double-ended), U-shaped, W-shaped, spiral type, and various custom shapes.

By heating medium:

Liquid heating: Used in water heaters, boilers, oil tanks, acid and alkali tanks, etc. Dry burning is strictly prohibited; the effective heating zone must be fully immersed in the liquid.

Air heating: Used in drying ovens, air heaters, drying rooms, etc. They should be arranged crosswise and evenly to ensure good heat dissipation conditions.

Mold/solid heating: Used for temperature control of injection molding machines, die-casting machine molds, or melting low-melting-point metals.

Special structure types:

Sheathed heater: An additional sheath tube is added outside the heating core to isolate the heating element from the medium. The advantage is that during maintenance, only the core needs to be replaced without draining the medium, especially suitable for occasions like mineral oil.

Mineral-insulated cable heater: Borrowing from the mineral-insulated thermocouple process, it is repeatedly drawn and reduced to form a compact solid body. It features arbitrary bendability, high mechanical strength, uniform heating, and good insulation performance, suitable for complex environments or local spot heating.

Explosion-proof heater: Equipped with an explosion-proof junction box that meets standards, used in hazardous environments with flammable and explosive gases such as petroleum and chemical industries.

Selection and Usage Precautions

Correct selection and standardized operation are key to ensuring safety and extending service life.

Key Selection Parameters

Heating medium: Determine whether it is liquid, air, or solid, as this affects surface load and material selection.

Voltage and power: Match the power supply (e.g., 220V/380V), and calculate the required power based on heating space, specific heat capacity of the medium, and heating time.

Working temperature and pressure: Ensure the heater's rated temperature and pressure resistance are higher than the actual operating conditions.

Installation dimensions: Choose appropriate tube diameter, length, and bending shape according to the reserved space in the equipment.

Safe Usage Guidelines

No dry burning: Liquid heaters will be instantly burned out if powered on without water or when the liquid level is below the heating zone.

Reliable grounding: The metal shell must be effectively grounded to prevent electric leakage accidents.

Prevent moisture: The magnesium oxide powder at the wiring terminals and outlet is prone to moisture absorption; keep it dry to prevent insulation degradation.

Regular maintenance: Timely remove scale, carbon deposits, or dust on the tube surface to avoid affecting heat dissipation, which could cause local overheating and shorten service life.

Special media handling: When heating fusible solids like nitrate or paraffin, first reduce the voltage, and only after they are completely melted, raise it to the rated voltage.
